Session Guide – Preparing for Your Photography Experience
Family, Newborn, and Maternity Photography Sessions in Mission, Abbotsford & the Fraser Valley
Your photography session is designed to be relaxed, comfortable, and beautifully guided from start to finish. Whether you are booking a newborn, maternity, family, or milestone session, this guide will help you feel prepared and confident so we can create timeless, meaningful portraits for your family.
What to Wear for Your Session
Clothing plays an important role in creating cohesive, timeless images. Neutral tones, soft textures, and simple patterns photograph beautifully and keep the focus on connection and emotion.
Recommended colors:
-
Soft creams, whites, beiges, soft pastels, and muted earth tones
-
Coordinated neutrals for family sessions
-
Light layers and flowing fabrics for maternity
What to avoid:
-
Large logos or bold graphics
-
Bright neon colors
-
Heavy patterns that distract from faces
If you would like, I can provide styling guidance before your session to help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully together.
Preparing for Your Session
Newborn Sessions
Newborn sessions are best scheduled within the first 5–14 days after birth, when babies are naturally sleepy and flexible. Feeding your baby just before the session and keeping them awake for a short period beforehand can help them settle into a deep sleep during the shoot.
Maternity Sessions
Maternity sessions are typically scheduled between 28–34 weeks, when your belly is beautifully defined and you are still comfortable posing.
Family & Milestone Sessions
For family sessions, relaxed clothing and a calm mindset help create natural, joyful images. Children are encouraged to be themselves—movement, cuddles, and laughter are always welcome.
What to Expect During Your Session
Your session is designed to feel calm and guided. I will gently pose and direct you while leaving room for natural moments and connection. Sessions are unhurried, allowing time for feeding, soothing, and breaks as needed.
My home studio in Mission, BC is kept warm and comfortable, with professional lighting and a curated selection of props and backdrops for newborn and maternity sessions.
After Your Session – Artwork & Ordering
Your images are carefully edited in my signature style and presented in a private online gallery. From there, you can choose digital images and fine art products designed to be displayed in your home.
Many families choose wall art collections, framed prints, albums, and heirloom artwork to enjoy their portraits every day.
Your Comfort & Safety
Your comfort and your baby’s safety are my top priority. All newborn poses are created gently with baby-led positioning and safe support techniques. Props and studio equipment are cleaned and sanitized before every session.
Let’s Create Something Beautiful
Every session is designed with intention—to create meaningful artwork that celebrates your family’s story. If you have any questions or special requests, I am always happy to customize your session to reflect your vision.
