Newborn Photography in Mission

Bringing a baby into your family is one of the most miraculous and amazing moments you will ever experience. The first few days after bringing home your newborn are so precious, but they also go by so quickly. As a mother of two myself, here at Glenda Monsen Photography, I appreciate how important it is to capture every sweet and tiny detail of your infant. Newborns change so much and so fast in the first couple of weeks after birth, that’s why newborn photography shoots are so important for new families, or families with a new addition.

Your Best Choice for a Newborn Photographer in the Fraser Valley

As parents, we want to capture our babies’ delicate features. At the same time the first couple of weeks of life with a newborn can be full of mixed emotions, recovery, discovery, and adaptation. Braving a newborn shoot in this sensitive time can be intimidating, and scary at the same time. That’s why having professional newborn photographer in Mission can take some of your worries away. As a newborn family photographer in Mission, I am a firm believer that capturing memories of this special time should not distract from the memories itself.

Tips For the Best Newborn Family Photography Session

Having been a professional family photographer since 2002, I have some tried and true tips for ensuring your newborn photography session is a calm and relaxing experience for the whole family. So, this is what you need to know to prepare for your shoot:

  • Book sessions around baby’s typical times, and try to keep your baby awake for at least 1-2 hours before the shoot, the sleepier the baby the easier it is to get more poses

  • Newborn shoots are between 2-3 hours, so it’s best to feed your baby before the shoot

  • Bring a pacifier to have on hand if your baby uses one, as well as be prepared for a feed if it’s needed

  • Have your baby in a simple onesie or sleeper for photoshoot. My studio is kept very warm for newborn sessions as some photos are done in just a wrap or bare skin, so Moms and Dads please wear light layers!

  • Newborns are best photographed before 10 days of age when they are less alert and don’t yet have baby acne

  • White noise and womb sounds are used in my studio to keep your newborn calm and relaxed the entire time

As a professional photographer for newborns for nearly 20 years, I provide props for all of my newborn photo shoots when done at my studio. I used controlled lighting in my professional home photography studio here in Mission, BC, and I clean and sanitize all of my props and equipment before and after every newborn photography session. However, if you have particular items you are wanting in your pictures, like a stuffed animal or special blanket, feel free to bring them along and I will always do my best to accommodate your personal requests.

What to Wear for Professional Family Photos

When coming to any photo shoot, whether it’s a family portrait, children and sibling photos, or newborn shoots with other family members present, try to keep the clothing very simple and classic looking. You want your photos to have a timeless feel to them, so that when they are passed down from generation to generation, the clothing you chose doesn’t deter from the focal point; you and your loved ones. Avoid wearing clothing with logos or characters on them. Try to keep clothing to simple patterns as busier textures can distract the eye and take away from the final image.

Professional Family Photographer in the Fraser Valley

Family members can be included in newborn photography sessions, and are in fact encouraged. As a mother myself, I understand that not all mothers feel very photogenic in those first few days after birth. However, just remember those precious days go by so quickly and you will never get them back. So, try to put aside any bodily insecurities, and make the decision to get newborn family photography done while you have the chance. I myself was one of those moms who opted for newborn only images, and I regret not having some of those precious, natural moments of the two of us together captured. As a family photographer in the Fraser Valley, I have seen how special it is to capture those family moments together while you can. I still regret not having them taken for myself and my family, so don’t make the same mistakes that so many of us have made! If you are wanting any family members to be included into the photographs of your newborn, please just let me know ahead of time so I can be properly prepared for your shoot.
